FastTrack or FTComm Not Working
Reboot Windows. Use FTComm to
Upgrade versions. If still having problems thereafter,
try the following:
Almost ALL problems can be fixed by
reinstalling FTCOMM. This
does not delete your personal families, databases, saved charts, or FNUs.
If
promoted to "modify" or "repair", choose repair. If prompted
to uninstall an old version of FTComm, please do so, using your computer
Control Panel. Learn how to uninstall. This does not delete your personal families, databases, saved
charts, or FNUs.
Install on New Computer
Three steps:

On your old computer:
Copy the c:\FT
folder to a USB thumbdrive. That means copy the folder. Do not open the
folder and copy all of its contents. Copy only one item, the folder itself
(which includes all its contents). This step is NOT required.
It's sole purpose is to copy your personal families, and other
FastTrack related files which you
saved on your old machine.

On your new computer:
Copy the FT folder from the USB thumbdrive to your hard disk root folder
(Usually C:\). Copy only one item, the folder itself (which includes all of
its contents).

On your new computer:
Click here to DOWNLOAD
and install FTComm. After installation, if FTComm
does not start automatically, then Start/All Programs/FastTrack/FTComm 2.
If promoted to "modify" or "repair", choose repair. After installation, FTComm will download all the databases and families.
This make take up to 30 minutes. This does not delete your personal families,
databases, saved charts, or FNUs.
Post installation Note:
FT4Web display is improperly sized. Full screen images freeze up. May or may not
work in a normal (not maximized window)
Commonly new machines, especially Windows 7
64-bit machines, may not have the correct video driver installed.
Reboot in safe mode. If FT4Web works fine, then the problem is video
hardware/driver mismatch. Contact the manufacturer of your machine to ensure that you have the
latest drivers installed.
Note:
System Administrators
If you are installing for a user who will not have
full Administrative privileges, then log in as that user. Follow the steps above EXCEPT
(in step 3) save the FTComm_Setup.exe to your desktop. Then,
right-click on the FTComm_Setup.exe and "Run as Administrator". This should
give the user sufficient privileges to install and use FastTrack without
having to run all the time as Administrator.
There still are dozens of ways that
a you, as a System administrator installing/configuring Windows, firewalls, spyware
and, virus software,
can shut down a system so tight that FastTrack will die from lack of oxygen.
Further, FastTrack Support uses
LogMeInRescue for support and training. If you lock out such services,
we will be UNABLE to help.
The job is not complete until the user is able
to start FT4Web and see charts. The user must be able to run FTComm
(FTP protocol) to
get data updates.
